Art Nude Photography - getting started - Hobbies

Many photographers would like to try their hand at art nude photography, but find it difficult to get started.First of all, it is important to understand that in art nude photography there is a great deal more to it than putting anaked model in front of the camera and clicking away. Before you even start an art nude photography project you shouldconsider a few things.

1) What is your motivation ? Good art nude photography is usually produced where the photographer has a vision or astatement that they want to make about the beauty of the naked human form.

2) Does your model empathize with the project ? Female models who predominately work in the glamour or fashion areas ofphotography are often unable to make good poses for an art nude photography project.

3) Do you have a theme or location in mind for your project ? Art nude photography does not have to be confined to thestudio. Outside locations such as old buildings, forests or even open countryside can provide good contexts for art nudephotography projects.

However, the biggest problem for most people wanting to get started in art nude photography is that they can't find a model. There are two avenues you can follow here:

1) Ask a friend! Your model doesn't have to be a stunning beauty. The 'girl next door' who looks quite ordinary, withan average figure ( whatever that is ) can be a great subject for an art nude photography project.

2) Go to one or more of the many model web sites and search for models who specialize in art nude photography. You willhave to pay the model of course, but with a professional model you often get a better result than working with an amateur.

3) Avoid group photo shoots at camera clubs. These are a waste of time. Good art nude photography is usually the productof a model and photographer creatively working together. This doesn't happen on group shoots.

So, you have found a model, the location and you have a great idea for a theme for your art nude photography project. Hereare some further things to consider for the actual shoot.

1) Good art nude photography takes time. Unless you are shooting in the snow, make sure you take plenty of time to getthe model into an interesting pose, and sort out your background and lighting. Don't just blindly snap away in the hope thatyou will eventually get a good shot.

2) Be creative! Try lots of different ideas, and involve your model. It's her art nude photography project as well asyours.

Finally - don't be afraid to try. Your first art nude photography project may not yield the greatest results in the historyof art, but with some effort and the right motivation on your part you are bound to get a couple of good shots. And you willhave had the pleasure of capturing an image of beauty that will last forever.
